In a prime location on one of Barcelona’s most famous boulevards sits the luxurious new Mandarin Oriental Residences, Barcelona, at Passeig de Gràcia 111. The cosmopolitan Catalan capital was a natural choice for the hotel group’s first standalone branded residence in Europe. “It’s a beautiful resort city – you’ve got the beaches, you’ve got the lifestyle, but you’re at the city’s heart as well,” explains Rod Taylor, Head of International New Developments at Savills.
The 20-storey tower will house 30 apartments and four penthouses when the finishing touches are completed next year. As well as being Barcelona’s luxury shopping destination, Passeig de Gràcia is home to some of the city’s most famous architecture, such as Gaudí’s Casa Batlló and Casa Milà.
The Residences will have its own private on-site amenities, including a fitness centre, spa, residents’ lounge, rooftop garden and swimming pool. An important distinction, says Taylor. “Often, when buying a home in a branded residence, owners share facilities with hotel guests,” he explains. “But buyers look for privacy and service, and the dedicated services in Mandarin Oriental Residences, Barcelona offer that.”
Close to The Residences is the hotel, the Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona, where residents can also access the hotel’s facilities, including its award-winning spa, bars and the two-Michelin-starred Moments restaurant.
It’s part of a growing global trend for branded residences, traditionally in resort destinations, but increasingly in urban locations. “With Mandarin Oriental, you know the service you are going to get. The brand sets a very high standard – in quality of finish, build and design – and that tends to give owners a great deal more comfort,” says Taylor.
The property is the work of local architect Carlos Ferrater, with interiors by London-based Muza Lab. But it is that high-quality service offering that really sets it apart. Whether it’s spa treatments, maid service or a chef cooking for you in your own apartment, dedicated staff will be on hand to look after residents’ needs. “Whatever you want, you just talk to the concierge.”
