With its sleek lines and sharp angles, this contemporary lakeside villa owes much to the country’s most famous architect and master of functionalism, Le Corbusier.
Designed by local Lausanne practice Ferrari Architectes in 2015, it’s a style that’s rare in the area. “Architecture in this region tends to be very traditional or classical,” says David Colle of Luxury Places, a Savills associate. “Local developers usually prefer more mainstream projects rather than this kind of high-end contemporary masterpiece.” The private, gated Domaine du Lac includes just two properties, which share a sheltered, secluded position and magnificent views over the French shores of Lake Geneva and the Alps.
“The waterfront situation is exceptional,” says Colle. “Of all the properties we currently have for sale, only a small number are directly on the lake.” The villa is designed to make the most of its setting, with a fully glazed, double-height façade bringing those fabulous views into the main living areas and bedrooms. Set over three levels with 900 sq m of living space, it is built around a central courtyard garden, which beautifully blends indoors and out, and acts as a prism to reflect light around the interior.
“This kind of ultra-contemporary architecture is extremely rare in the region, but it becomes almost unique when you consider the layout, the quality of construction, choice of materials and the finishing touches,” says Colle. These include smart-home control systems, solar panel and heat-pump technology, and a basement level dedicated to recreation and relaxation, complete with pool, gym, home cinema and bar. In the historic town of Saint-Prex, close to Geneva and Lausanne, the property is perfectly placed for sailing and watersports on the lake.
“You could take a boat across Lake Geneva to have lunch on a terrace in Évian,” says Colle. “And there’s great access to ski resorts – you can be on the slopes in 45 minutes.”
